Piano Chord Songs: 30+ Easy Songs to Play on Piano

Playing songs on piano with chords is the fastest way to start making music. Instead of reading sheet music note-by-note, you play chord shapes with your right hand and bass notes with your left. Here are 30+ songs perfect for chord-based piano playing.

How to Play Piano Chord Songs

Right hand: Play the chord (3-4 notes together or arpeggiated)

Tips for Piano Chord Playing

Start with root position chords

Play each chord in its basic form (root as the lowest note) before learning inversions.

Learn inversions

Inversions let you move between chords smoothly. For C to F: keep the C note in both chords (C-E-G to C-F-A) so your hand barely moves.

Add rhythm gradually

Start with whole notes (one chord per measure), then half notes, then add your own rhythm pattern.

Use sustain pedal

The sustain pedal makes chord playing sound full and connected. Press it down at the start of each chord and release briefly when changing chords.

Left hand patterns

Start with just root notes. Then try root-fifth (C-G for C chord). Then try octaves. Then try root-fifth-octave patterns.
